Gardner's Theory of Learning

Gardner's Theory of Learning (often called Multiple Intelligence theory) is an attempt to guide teachers in creating differentiated instruction. The model embraces more than "the big three" (verbal, visual, math skills) to see people as having many more dimensions to them. Sadly, the ACT, SAT, and other such tests still rely on those three sections heavily as a hold-over from the IQ test era.

What Gardner is suggesting is that the often overtly observable realm of scholastic efforts is woefully inadequate to approach the myriad of ways humans learn and interact with material, ideas, and others. Originally theorized as seven categories:

Gardner later theorized an additional category of "Naturalist." Others (Dr. Melvin Campbell) have theorized "Humor" as an other way of interacting that reflects on the original seven.

This simple test that follows is based on Sue Teele's work and my own adaption of it. The pages are also coded by me. Upon finishing, you will have a tally of your results. This is a good place to start on your way to understanding yourself and others a little better.

On the following pages, you will see two sets of images with a dividing line. The left side is "SIDE A" and the right side is "SIDE B" as they are labeled.

What you are to do is look at each side of the pair and choose the ONE you most respond to positively. In other words, the ONE that appeals to you more. Select your option by clicking the button down below each image.

Try not to "over think it" but rather rely on your instinctual responses to guide your selections. First impressions are often more accurate in tests like these. When you are done you will have a set of numbers you can write down.

Enjoy!
