A journey of a 1000 miles begins with one step

Service Project

Definition:

A service project is unsolicited work for a worthy cause. This statement means several things. First, service project work is not work that someone has told you or asked to be done. It is not regular chores. It is something extra. Service project work is when you ask what needs to be done or when you see a need and just do it. Second, it means that it needs to require a 1/2 hour of your time at least. Third, it can be done for any worthy cause and you may (but do not need to be!) paid for your time.

Examples:

  1. Volunteering to clean up your sister's (or brother's ) room
  2. Volunteering labor for the school (this one will shock people-AND set a good role model for the younger kids)
  3. Asking your parents what they would like you to do that would be outside of your regular chore work (this one will really kell 'em&emdash;be prepared: they will probably try to take your temperature!)
  4. Volunteering your time for your church
  5. Talk to a nursing home or hospital to see if you could volunteer some time there

Write up:

  1. What you did (about 1/2 a page)
  2. How the other person(s)/party reacted (did they faint? smile?)
  3. How you felt (one paragraph)
  4. Include the signature(s) of the people you worked for or an adult who can verify it happened
